Writing

I majored in English at Eastern Illinois University; graduating Cum Laude in 2004. While I was there, I wrote a few award-winning essays as well as interned at the EIU publications department.

Travel Article

A travel essay/article; and the last thing I ever wrote at Eastern IL University. The crux of the essay is my trip to England and the slow transformation of feeling like an awkward outsider to being one of a close-knit team of friends. It's a little corny, skimming it now over 10 years later to write this summary.

Parkland Community College

This is an article for a small, community magazine in Champaign, IL. The magazine wanted the focus to be on the school's academics, but the contact at the college didn't want to talk about that, interestingly. College descriptions

A PDF format version of descriptions of various colleges at Eastern Illinois University. This was written during a 6 month internship at EIU, where I worked in the University's publications department. These descriptions appeared in the primary marketing booklet for their "i am eiu." campaign that was rolling out in 2004 and, as of 2016, is still in use today.

The Blue Hotel Analysis

An award-winning essay about the Blue Hotel and its undertones of Tolstoy vs. Darwinism and the East vs. the West. If you haven't read Stephen Crane this probably won't be understandable.
