Welcome to redlow.net, an ancient place of power birthed from the remains of an abandoned roman internet super highway. A site so antique, it's everything and nothing at once. Once in a blue moon I might update a thing.

The Elements of Roleplay

"The Elements of Roleplay" is an RP guide written for Ultima Online, which garnered a lot of attention and re-posting. Although it's written specifically for UO, the suggestions and advice here could certainly be applied to any pen&paper game or computer game with player-to-player roleplaying elements (the few that still exist).

Energy Benign

A poem about a former love interest, who shall remain safely anonymous. Although it sounds abstract, each line has specific meaning.

Home at Ease

An award-winning poem.... from a computer game. Also, about a computer game. Can you say nerd? I can. I smell it too!

Not so Fair

Nugget

Unfortunately in my efforts to rebuild my site, my memory is foggy on this short story, but I believe it came out of a Meetup "Just Write" session challenge. The character is extremely loosely based on a real cab driver, although I'm sure he wasn't named Nugget, and takes a short, humorous stab at explaining his motives and personality.

Rat Sketch

This is a very, very short screenplay that came from a playwriting class at EIU. It stars two old Ultima Online friends and a fictional talking rat (well, real enough in this story).

Singularity/Universal Machine

A friend challenged anyone to turn up a Singularity story (machines achieve sentience) that relied on no cliches. I totally misunderstood what he was talking about, but wrote this story anyway. It's about a PI investigating a crime in the not-too-distant future in my hometown, Chicago.

The Undiscovered Facet

The longest piece I've written that I've felt compelled to share; the Undiscovered Facet is a fictional world set inside another fictional world (the computer game, Ultima Online). Featuring fictionalized versions of other real players' fictional characters, this novella is so meta, you'll think google bots wrote it.

The Day After Yesterday

Arguably, although probably not true, this is my best piece of fiction. Having nothing to do with the movie with a similar name, it is instead about two lab researchers at a university investigating the existence (or lack of) god. It's science fiction as well, in that holograms run rampant in this world, and more often than not, serve as a metaphor for God, God's love, or just love itself. If you like artsy, but still entertaining short stories, you'll enjoy it.
